I noticed there wasn’t a lot of input online about these cards.
I saw one come up on MWAVE and was uncertain. I didn’t see them as a typically well known brand like Gigabyte or MSI. It also looked kind of ugly to me with the RGB gamer shit which I don’t care about at all. But it was a 3080 and I was tired of being dicked around so I grabbed it.
PNY GeForce RTX 3080 runs very quite (I’ve never actually heard the fans, my computer is under my desk, I tried setting the fans to 100% in MSI Afterburner to see what it’s like and they definitely do get loud but it seems the card has never had to really go anywhere even near max fan speed.) It runs quiter than my gigabyte 980ti for reference.
Very cool temps.
PNY GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card actually isn’t as ugly as I expected, the way I have my computer setup you don’t really see it and I don’t care much for aesthetics but the black plate is quite solid/clean looking and it’s RGB is not over the top. It runs from my benchmarks basically the same as the founders, slightly faster from what I can see.
I’m getting around max 1900mhz
I attempted over clocking, The card could run up to 2050mhz in my tests however any overclocking seemed to introduce microstutters and I was actually getting worse frames than it being non-overclocked? Not sure what causes this but the normal default settings seem to work fine for any game I threw at it.
Have had no crashing issues, that seems to of been a driver issue early on when the cards first came out.
I’m not some PNY shill, I just figured there really is no info on these cards and I get the impression they get a bad rep. I hope this helps anyone who has just purchased or who is on the fence. In my experience it seems to run very similar to stock founders cards just with a different cooler design.
If I had to be critical about the 3080 my main issue is the lack of ports. the 1080ti and 980ti had way better port options including USB-C. The 980ti has 6 ports. Where the 3080 is like 4 or something and no USB-C. I’m also unsure why overclocking causes worse performance? Perhaps the PNY’s aren’t particularly good for overclocking? But the normal default clock settings run great.
